Description

This is the messierest photo I've taken to date. It shows seven bright deep sky objects from the Messier catalog and I took this last night from my terribly brightly lit North Melbourne courtyard with a superb bortle 9 rating.

The glowy blob at the center of the first image is the Sagittarius Star Cloud (M 24). This is not a star cluster, but instead a tunnel through the dark dust in the Milky Way that lets us see through to the stars that lie behind.

It is flanked by the Eagle (M 16) and Omega or Swan (M 17) nebulae on the left and the Lagoon (M 8) and Trifid (M 20) nebulae on the right. At the top you can see open cluster M 23 and at the bottom is open cluster M 25.
